A few members of our singing community

Singing Lessons

I work in person with singers who have a range of musical interests and abilities: from beginners to advanced, from the young to those with an accumulation of years, both male and female. This may include singers who wish to audition for choral scholarships, music colleges, music scholarships, community or local choirs, the National Youth Choirs, or to take grade exams or professional diplomas of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or Trinity College London and those preparing for other performances.

Lesson format

In every lesson we work through physical and vocal warm-ups, and technical exercises for the voice. After this, we concentrate on current and new songs with a close look at how you use your body (such as postural alignment and breathing), and how to interpret text and music for performance. I aim to encourage and support you so that you learn something new and move forward in each lesson.

We will work together to choose pieces that suit you and your voice, considering suitable range, your interests, personality and vocal colour. Repertoire could be from a selection of genres including English song, Italian arias, German Lieder, French song, folk song or musical theatre.

If you are thinking of taking singing lessons, I recommend an initial consultation lesson so that you as a student can sample how I work and we can decide the best ways of working together. Contact me if you have any questions.
